Lynn posted this weekend on the fires in California...the photos are incredible as was her post at the cafe...click here or here.(her personal site)
delighting in the details ~ week 6
delighting in the details ~ week 6
It's become a bit of a ritual now...a reflection on the details and what they mean on a 'deeper' level.
This week I could not help but notice a word that was clearly the focus this week....
~~FIRE~~
As those fires raged out in California, thousands of miles away from me here in Georgia, we found ourselves watching the news and praying for those whose lives have been 'interrupted' in a very significant way.

With it on my mind, I began to think about FIRE...Fire is never still, just watch a candle flicker, it is always moving and if let on its own it seeks to consume...we have seen how aggressively fire can consume. With it's constant moving and desire to consume, is it any wonder that fire reminds me of God.
Fire produces change, in one way or another, it cooks, it heats, it refines and it unfortunately can destroy..but it produces change in anything it touches, just like GOD.
This weekend as we pray for those whose lives have been permanently changed by fire, I want to pray too that God will use these fires to consume hearts and change them. To see heroes at work and hear of people responding in kind to victims with compassionate hearts, perhaps we too can be consumed...by the Fire.
We have that Fire within us as Christians, and if 'fire' is what it is....it will not be still, it will seek to consume and it will produce change...DC Talk sings a song Consume ME...

"You consume me, You consume me
Like a burning flame running through my veins
You consume me moving through me
Anytime anyplace you invade my space You consume me, You consume me"
God can use such simple things to teach us life lessons, so as those fires rage, PRAY for those who are hurting and living an interrupted life and for the firefighters who give so selflessly to others, and then think of the "FIRE" in you...it can consume you...and change you...
I know, I've been consumed and changed...and I don't want to be still!

Lori,
Awesome analogy!
I want to have His fire burning in me and changing me- purge me Lord!
Blessings,
Sue
What a fabulous post! I loved the analogy----powerful. Lord, keep removing the dross in my own life.
Very moving post, Lori - as always. You have such a gift for painting a picture through the words you choose. The bible reminds us to go out and proclaim the Good News of the Lord (the Gospel) and you do it so eloquently.
May we all feel the heat of the flame inside of us.
Love,
Julie
AMEN Lori - thankyou for the practical/spiritual application. Thank you for reminding me to pray for the Fire within me as I pray for the fire in California. Your post has challneged me today. I love your blog too!!
Have a wonderful Friday
Lori,
Awesome post. I type this as I set with smoke clouding our skys and a giant fire burning only 12 miles away from our home. The fires have also made me reflective. Thank you.
GOOD THOUGHTS!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!
IT'S EASY FOR LIFE TO HAPPEN AND THE FIRE TO FADE! I HAD TO CONFESS SOME THINGS TO MY HUSBAND AND CHILDREN, AT DINNER TONIGHT! GOD IS SHOWING ME SOME "BLIND SPOTS", AND THEY WERE AREA'S I THOUGHT I WAS DOING OKAY IN! I'M SO SAD ABOUT WHAT I HAVEN'T BEEN SEEING, AND HOW MY KIDS HAVE SEEN ME BE A POOR EXAMPLE...I HOPE IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO CHANGE!!!
HOPE YOU ARE KEEPING WARM AND DRY!
Hi Lori just wanted to say thanks for dropping by and for your comments on stillness. It's good to know that God does the same work on His children hey! Be Still & Know that I am God!!
Take care!
Another great "Details" post. I really enjoy these. Its fun to come each week and see what you are focusing on.
I don't know if anyone has ever suggested this, but you might consider making a carnival out of this someday where we all blog about one particular detail and how it relates to us spiritually. Just an idea!! Either that or I might do something similar on my blog, with your permission. I love reading this each week!!
I hope you have a great week!!
Hey Lori! In response to your comment that you left on my blog (which was in response to the comment I left on your blog...yeesh! that's confusing!!)I absolutely would participate if you have a details carnival. Based on your comments each week on this subject, I doubt you would have any trouble finding others to participate. If I can be any help, please just let me know!! I'm excited!! Thanks!!
