Ahhhh yes, tis' the season...
The season of grumpy shoppers and exhausted revelers. It's the season of returns and reunions. It's the season to be reminded that "we are the sweet fragrance of Christ."
Ever smelled peppermint?
(It's in my recent peppermint body butter that I've rediscovered just how fabulous peppermint smells!)
Did you know that peppermint has been shown to aid in digestion, (hence the reason for the bowl of mints at our favorite restaurants) and that it has traditionally been used to aid anxiety and tension headaches? See where I'm going with this??
Fa, la, la, la, la.
I say, bring on the peppermint brigade.
Grab a candy cane or two, or a case for that matter. They're cheap and they just may be the thing we all need this time of year. We ARE disciples, right? Let it be the reminder that,
"WE are the sweet fragrance of Christ..."
Now, who wouldn't like to smell like that?
While I was working on this, one of those "ahhh haaa" moments came to me...
An idea. An idea for a gift. A gift with meaning.
Peppermint fudge with a reminder to a friend that they are "the fragrance of Christ" in our lives...
Then tonight as I waited to pick up my girls, I sat immersed in "Follow Me to Freedom," where Shane Claiborne of The Simple Way, says, "One of the key ways we discern God's will, is by asking, "Does this - community, this spouse, this leader, move me closer to Jesus? Can I smell the fragrance of Christ on them?""
(Irony? I prefer to see it as the Spirit guiding.)
If you do, why not let them know in a REAL way...they don't need another scarf or pen. SINCE it's the season, I'll share the recipe I found.
Tis' the Season to be a disciple!

Know what else peppermint is great at? Keeping morning sickness at bay (or nausea). It's my best friend during those weeks, ha ha. :) Have a great week, Lori!
I agree with Twinkie Mom. All the verses I've read seem to have the same meaning.

What a beautiful post.. Peppermint... Love the fact that we are the sweet fragrance of Christ.. Amen to that!
I was reading this and i suppose my 2 year old sees the all too famliar cane shaped candy. She disppeared for a moment and goes " Can you open this for me mommy". I turn and she has a candy cane in her hand. One someone had given me for her, that I had completely forgotten about , stashed away in my bag. So, if she could, I am sure she would thank you for the pepermint aided jolt to her memory. God bless you and may we exude sweetness in our fragrance.
