To Give Thanks To God
How To Give Thanks To God: In our daily lives, we hear a lot of people talking about how thankful they should be, and how we should all just be thankful and positive. But is there really anything special or helpful about saying thank you to God in particular? When we hear about people thanking god for their blessings, it seems like it should be something very simple and straightforward, but it isn't.
The Struggle is Real
Some people struggle with how to give thanks to God and go through a very complicated process of letting go and trying to get others to do their thinking for them, which can be really off-putting and difficult. What exactly is gratitude, anyway? The dictionary says it's "a sincere and continuous expressed feeling of appreciation for things already received or achieved." It's an act of recognizing that we have been blessed with things that are already ours, and that we are grateful for the fact that we have been given these things. In other words, it's an act of recognizing and acknowledging what someone has done for us and appreciating it. In our lives, we'll hear phrases like: I'm so grateful that you took the time to come back home and take care of me. I am so grateful that you took the time to write back and explain that you're not physically ill, but that you are feeling unwell and are worried about the welfare of your dog. I am so grateful for the co-workers who gave me a shoulder to lean on when I fell. And finally, I am truly blessed to have such amazing friends who support me and love me no matter what. All of these statements are expressions of gratitude. But does it make sense to actually give thanks in those ways? Many people have spiritual senses that tell them when they've done something right. Perhaps they feel their spirits rise when they hear a prayer, or they may catch a glimpse of the Lord as He's speaking. When we pray, praise, and feel gratitude for all that we have, do we then necessitate more money? It seems that in order to say thank you, we need to go and buy more things. If you want to give thanks, you don't have to go and buy more things. It doesn't even have to be a paltry amount; a simple, sincere thank you can mean more than you can imagine to a person who is hurting. A simple, sincere expression of gratitude is what gives us the strength to continue on in our lives. And this goes for all of us, whether we're rich or poor, or religious or irreligious. God gave us opportunities to share His love and His blessings with others. So why shouldn't we show that same kind of love and blessing to those around us? Religious people may put God in an unfair light, but it's still possible to show Him your appreciation without being perceived as greedy or dishonest. Some of the ways that God helps us see His blessings are in the way that He makes provision for those who need and deserve them.
The Blessing / Curse of Money
The very fact that we are blessed to be given money does not mean that we have to spend it on frivolous things. Indeed, it's important that we use what we are given so that we can prosper financially. But the most important thing to be aware of is that God puts His blessings in such a way that we need and enjoy them. And that is what being thankful is really all about. Praying, and being thankful, is part and parcel of what makes life worthwhile. It is our way of saying "Thank You" to the almighty. Being thankful opens up possibilities in our life, for example, it helps us focus on the good things that we have going on in our lives rather than dwelling on the bad things.
